HCMC to launch ‘Clean up the World 2011’ campaign

Activities during the campaign event will include an exhibition on the environment, an environmental seminar, environment protection projects and an awareness campaign for people to discontinue use of plastic bags.
A representative from the City People’s Committee said that every citizen will be able to participate in any of the activities. Following simple practices such as discontinuing use of plastic bags, saving on electric consumption, encouraging people to protect the environment and keep relevant authorities updated on any environmental violations.
The city also will develop a plan to step up inspections and supervision to handle serious offenders of environmental regulations.
Since the first campaign launched in 1993, Clean Up the World has inspired an estimated 35 million volunteers in 130 countries and territories each year to take responding actions.
Vietnam is the pro-campaign country with the history dating back to 1994.
